The Mandalorian Season 2

Episode 1: The Marshal

This is a spoiler free review for the most part. Some images may hint at a few suprises/Easter eggs.

The second season of The Mandalorian finds our hero (Pedro Pascal) continuing his mission to return the child to its people. In order to do so, he is instructed to find another Mandalorian. This leads him to Tatooine and a would-be Mando named Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), the local marshal in the forgotten town of Mos Pelgo. Realizing that Vanth isn’t a Mando, the Mandalorian demands that he give up the armor. This results in a Western-styled face-off that is interrupted by a krayt dragon.

Knowing that he’ll most likely die in a shoot out with the Mandalorian, Vanth cuts a deal with him: the armor in exchange for assistance in killing the krayt dragon that’s terrorizing the town.

The Mandalorian agrees with Vanth and the duo set out to hunt the beast down in its lair. Along the way they meet up with some Tusken Raiders. An uneasy pact is formed between the Tuskens and the citizens of Mos Pelgo. Do they remain united long enough to kill the krayt dragon? Where did Vanth get his armor? You’ll have to watch The Marshal in order to find out!

This was an excellent start to the second season of the series. Along with the child, another familiar (and friendly) face shows up and we get another glimpse at Tusken culture. There are nods to the films and one specific character from the Star Wars universe, but you’ll have to watch the show to see what I’m talking about.

Of all of the episodes so far, this one feels the most like a classic Western. From the stand-off to the reveal of a surprising character that sets up future episodes, this episode was great. Pascal and Olyphant did wonderful jobs and I hope that Olyphant returns later in the season. The pacing was excellent and the music was simply amazing.

Be sure to check out this episode of The Mandalorian. If you haven’t watched any of the other episodes, be sure to do so. Thanks for reading my post. I’ll review Episode 2 next week!
